Will You be a Five-Star Local?


New to Team ISEA this year is our Five-Star Local Recognition Program. By going to the "members only" portion of our ISEA website, you can access the "Leader Toolkit" and download the application form to complete. It's just that simple! As you look over the list of criteria, you will see that you are already doing the work. Be one of the first local associations to be recognized this year at Delegate Assembly March 30-31, 2006!

To get started:

Five-Star Local —Complete eighteen of the criteria and submit
application and documentation to the committee.

Three-Star Local—Complete fifteen of the criteria and submit
application and documentation to the committee.

One-Star Local —Complete twelve of the criteria and submit
application and documentation to the committee.

Criteria
1. Submit a written membership campaign plan, attend a membership training session, and attain one of the following membership goals:

ESP Local—6 member increase from previous year

Student Program—10 member increase from previous year

AEA Local—Increase percent of potential by 5 percent

Community College—Increase percent of potential by 5 percent

K-12 Teacher Local—Increase percent of potential 5 percent

Any Local— Attain 85 percent of potential

2. Provide a program/event welcoming/informing new teachers or support staff.

3. Enroll 100 percent of the “new” teachers or staff as members.

4. Attain your ISEA bargaining goal or do an all member survey in your local association and provide evidence of obtaining at least one goal established by the members in bargaining.

5. Hold monthly meetings of your local association members or local governance structure (such as Association Representatives). Two of these meetings must provide training in membership recruitment and retention and political action goals of the Association.

6. Send at least one “first-time attendee” to the ISEA Summer Conference.

7. Send at least one “first-time attendee” to the ISEA Legislative Conference.

8. Send at least one member to all program-area training sessions at the unit level.

9. Communicate about your local association activities and provide updates to all members of your local association at least four times during the school year.

10. Increase by 5 percent the number of your members contributing to ISEA PAC or have 100 percent of your members contributing to ISEA PAC.

11. Conduct a local program to promote public education and your local association in the community.

12. Host one of your area legislators at a local association meeting or have an individual member host them for a day in the classroom—observing or teaching. An acceptable alternative shall be a joint meeting with legislators hosted by the local association, the school board, and the administrators.

13. Sponsor a Read Across America activity in your local school or community.

14. Sponsor an American Education Week activity in your local school or community.

15. Send a full complement of delegates to the ISEA Delegate Assembly.

16. Send a representative to the NEA Representative Assembly as a state, local, or cluster delegate.

17. Nominate someone for one of the ISEA awards.

18. Establish a feedback mechanism to listen to your local association members concerns.

19. Recommend school board candidates or provide information to members about school board candidates.

20. Publish a regular association newsletter throughout the year.
