Southwest UniServ Unit Hosts A "Welcome Home Friends" Reception

On Wednesday evening Southwest UniServ Unit held their annual Legislative Council where nearly 50 association leaders representing their local association gathered in Red Oak. SWUU president Tom McLaughlin (pictured at left), Lewis Central High School Speech and Drama teacher, welcomed home three former SWUU leaders as the keynote speakers.

Former SWUU past presidents-- Chris Bern, former teacher in Woodbine and now ISEA Vice President teaching in Knoxville (on the left); me a 4th grade teacher at Carter Lake Elementary in Council Bluffs; and Randy Richardson, former teacher in Fremont-Mills and later an Instructional Strategist at AEA 13 and current ISEA Associate Executive Director for Field Services-all traveled together for our for our "homecoming" to SWUU.

Special recognition was given to local associations that met (or exceeded) their bargaining goals. Congratulations to all you great local bargainers!

Congratulations to all SWUU locals that received recognition for membership gains. Thanks to your efforts--last year Team ISEA saw a statewide increase of 300+ members and this year an increase of 600+ members!

It was extra special to return to SWUU for our "Homecoming"! It was exciting to see so many new faces that have been "given a place at the table"--now taking on the role of association leaders in SWUU. Congratulations SWUU Crew for continuing the great tradition of having leaders step aside to allow new folks the chance to take on leadership roles!
