DMEA leaders arrive early to gather materials in preparation for the 4:15 p.m. start time.
Des Moines Education Association President, Alan Young, leads the monthly Facutly Rep meeting.
Agenda items include reports from numerous association committees as well as from Faculty Reps that represent the DMEA on school district committees. I spoke briefly to the assembled DMEA leaders of Team ISEA's goals and complimented all DMEA leaders for their tremendous effort in successfully raising the numbers of members participating in contributing to ISEA-PAC. DMEA went a few years ago from 40% to now over 80% participating!
At one point of the Faculty Rep meeting agenda newly named DMEA Executive Director Greg Harris announced the leaders gathered were to divide into three groups: Elementary, Middle and High School. Each group was led by a team of DMEA Executive Board members to have leaders share out concerns from their buildings. After brainstorming of ideas, leaders narrowed the list to the top three concerns for President Young and Executive Director Harris to begin to tackle.
January 10th was the end of the semester for Des Moines Public Schools and the next day...grades were due! It was a great turnout of DMEA leaders from throughout the entire school district.
Thanks DMEA for the invitation to participate! And thanks for all you do as leaders on Team ISEA!
