Great Leadership at Kirkwood Faculty Association

Our day at Kirkwood Community College was led by KFA president-elect, Johanna Kruckeberg (on right). Johanna took association leave to give Beth Holt ,Cedar Rapids EA and Jefferson High School Special Education teacher (on left) and myself a guided tour to many areas of the Cedar Rapids/Kirkwood campus. It was a great opportunity for Johanna to see others areas of the curriculum, since her focus of instruction is in Science.

Joining us at lunch was Carolyn Stephenson (at left), Social Science and Psychology instructor. Carolyn is the KFA representative on the ISEA Higher Education Standing Committee. It was great to see you again, Carolyn on your own campus! Thanks for your leadership on Team ISEA!
Able to stop by for a few moments on her way to class is KFA Membership Chair, Carol Roemig-Heusinkveld (on the right). Thanks for all your work, Carol, on behalf of KFA and Team ISEA!

Joining us at the "Class Act", the culinary arts classroom/restaurant are two more association leaders. Gary Donnermeyer (on the left) and Keith Hench, KFA president (on the right), both Science/Biology instructors. Gary shared with us a project that he is working on involving students at the junior high and high school levels in summer science classes on campus. Kirkwood is piloting a project where they hope to "grow their own" Science instructors.

After finishing a fine meal at the "Class Act", we were privileged to get a behind the scenes look at the Culinary Arts area. We toured the kitchen and classroom areas that are the instructional areas as well as the preparation area for the "Class Act" restaurant. Thanks to Culinary Arts instructor, Mary Rhiner (pictured at right) for her thorough explanation. She had probably wished we hadn't watched so many episodes of Food Network TV! Thanks, Mary!
