Taylor Elementary in Cedar Rapids

On Tuesday, February 28th we had the pleasure of spending time with registered nurse/school nurse Laura Wheeler. Laura first shared with us the fruit and vegetable snack that students partake in every school day at Taylor. Through a grant from the FDA, Taylor students are introduced to a wide range of fruits and vegetables as an afternoon snack. Laura gave us a tour of the kitchen/preparation area where produce is received and prepared for a classroom monitor to pick up and return to their classroom.

Laura also shared with us that Taylor has a "Metro Care Connection" center within their school building. I was so impressed with the investment Cedar Rapids Community School District has made by connecting community/human services right in their school facilities. Laura shared how attendance numbers demonstrate that student attendance has increased dramatically in the MCC Center buildings. Thanks Laura for your leadership!
