Team Work at Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School

Tuesday, February 28th took us to Jefferson High School bright and early to deliver breakfast to the Cedar Rapids EA members. Jefferson High School is one of twenty-five buildings that increased their association membership by at least one new member over last year, earning the building's entire membership a breakfast from CREA!

Pictured here is Tammy Wawro (at the right), CedarWood UniServ Unit president and Cedar Rapids School's Mentoring Facilitator; delivering breakfast to Jefferson High School staff member, Erin Payne-Christiansen (on the left).

Susan Rumelhart (pictured at left), ARNP, took time from her busy morning to share with us the investment the Cedar Rapids Community School District has made in "Metro Care Connection". There are four health centers that offer free health care to all Cedar Rapids students without access to affordable health insurance or a primary care provider. Each health center is staffed by a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP). The four schools with a health center are: Taylor Elementary, Metro High School, Wilson School and Jefferson High School. "Metro Care Connection's" moto is: Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds, and Healthy Learners. What a great investment, Cedar Rapids Community School District!

Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School principal, Chuck McDonnell, provided the opportunity for us to visit about the exciting changes about to take place regarding "Professional Learning Communities" at Jefferson High School. He shared that too often students are allowed to drop a class when their grades begin to drop or when they fall behind in their classwork. McDonnell went on to say how all staff will become a part of a PLC to provide a support system to build success for students. Thanks Mr. McDonnell for your leadership and providing opportunities for all Jefferson students to succeed!
