Friday the 13th of October, A Lucky Day for the ISEA Executive Board

On Friday evening, the ISEA Executive Board was treated to a number of presentations. We started our evening hearing from an Ad Hoc Committee to Review Summer Conference. Team ISEA staffer Sheryl Ballard headed up the group made up of ISEA Executive Board members (left to right) Michael Hall, Higher Education-Chair; Kathy Haltmeyer, MississippiBend UU; Peg Thein, JDC UniServ Unit and Sheryl Ballard (on far right). Several points made were: publicize the conference sooner, more complete description of offerings, and Association leaders to team up with ISEA staff in presenting sessions. Thanks for your leadership Sheryl, Peg, Kathy, and Michael!

Cory Wofford (standing at right) of NEA Public Relations presented the new NEA message “Great Public Schools, A Basic Right, for every student” to the ISEA Executive Board. Cory gave us a brief background in how NEA came to the message and walked us through the process of how we can use the message box to make it our own message. Thanks, Cory. Team ISEA loved your presentation and is already beginning to use the new message!

Our final presentation on Friday evening was made by Brad Hudson (seated on the right), Team ISEA Administrative Lobbyist and Government Relations Specialist. Brad, as staff liaison for “Building Support for Public Education” state committeegave us an update from the Summer Conference training and expectations of the year. In addition Brad gave us an update on recommended candidates and of the competitive legislative races.
