Thursday Evening at the UAW Hall in Waterloo

After the school day was over, community members gathered at the United Auto Workers Union Hall in Waterloo to enjoy a spaghetti dinner and hear from area candidates. One of the friends that I reconnected with was Pat Harper. Pat (pictured here with me on the left), a retired Math teacher at Waterloo West High, served in both the Iowa House and Iowa Senate. When I served in the Iowa House (93-96) Pat Harper was one of my closest friends. We shared dinner most nights in Des Moines and shared our ups and downs of the legislative process. Pat continues to work hard to elect and re-elect candidates that support students and public education. It was so fun to reconnect with Pat and share a few of our favorite stories of the past!

Another friend I reconnected with was Representative Don Shoultz. I too served with Rep. Shoultz in the Iowa House. Don is running for re-election to the Iowa House. Don is a retired teacher from Waterloo.

The rock-star of the evening, was Bruce Braley. Bruce not only has a powerful message, but delivers his message with the passion he feels about our issues. Bruce is running for Congress in the First Congressional District. Bruce has broad experience in the community and in business and is NEA/ISEA’s recommended candidate for CD 1. Bruce Braley will be a welcome additional to the Iowa Congressional delegation!
