Great Teacher Leaders at Maquoketa Middle School

After our visit at Maquoketa High School, we next visited the Middle School. Here we met up with JDC president and Middle School Guidance Counselor, Tom Petaros.

Tom was able to take a few minutes to visit with us about the Maquoketa Middle School's work on closing the achievement gaps and the many efforts that go into helping students find success at school.

We had the chance to visit 7th grade Language Arts teacher and Nationally Board Certified Jane Schmidt (on the left) and Carrie Pruess, team member of Jane's and Math teacher. Jane shared with excitement the most recent project her students were involved in---making i-movies. Jane walked us through the process students have taken, then said how she was then putting their work on a DVD for them to save. It really would be like the student's own portfolio. Thanks Jane for continued innovative work!

Just time enough to pop into two more classes and say "Hi" to friends....Carol Hammill, Social Studies teacher (pictured with me) and long-time friend and association leader. How fun it is for me to see these great educators in their classrooms doing their great magic in connecting students to learning opportunities.

And the last friend to say "Hi" to was Cindy Weiss. Cindy was honored by ISEA with our Human Relations Award for the work she does not only in the classroom, but as a leader in the community.

Thanks Maquoketa EA leaders for your leadership in the classroom and in your community! Thanks for the magic you do every day for the students of Iowa!
